GENEVA — The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has published its semi-annual Airport Slot Governance report, revealing that peak-hour runway slot utilization has reached 98.2% across Europe's top 50 slot-coordinated (Level 3) hub airports.

Congestion was most pronounced at London Heathrow, Frankfurt, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and Amsterdam Schiphol, where runway capacity declarations leave zero spare movement margins during scheduled wave banks. IATA Director General Willie Walsh emphasized that regulatory slot retention rules (the 80/20 'use-it-or-lose-it' mandate) have ensured full network utilization while necessitating intensified investment in runway turnoff geometry and A-CDM digital dispatch.

Coordinated discussions with European air navigation service providers (Eurocontrol) are underway to optimize airway sector flows.
