SINGAPORE — Prime Minister Lawrence Wong presided over the formal groundbreaking ceremony for Changi Airport Terminal 5, initiating civil construction on the Changi East development precinct.

Designed to handle 50 million PAX annually in its initial phase, Terminal 5 will increase Changi's total annual passenger capacity to 140 million. The facility incorporates modular sub-terminal pavilions capable of flexible isolation during public health contingencies, alongside direct subterranean transit links to the city's MRT mass transit network.

Major civil works contracts for terminal foundations and subterranean utilities have been awarded to international contracting consortia.
